Four Screens of Ishida's Calligraphy | Linquan Zhupo Tufeng Zen
This work embodies the essence of Master Qinan's "blunt brush and center-point" technique. Its blend of seal and clerical scripts evokes the vividness of Xu Ben's zhuan, while its running and cursive scripts inherit the subtle elegance of Song Ke's Zhang style, while also incorporating a distinct Wu style. The Xuan paper undergoes a secret method of sharpening and polishing, resulting in a hazy, pine-smoke-filled effect that evokes the essence of "the brush hidden in the forest and spring" as expressed in the Shitian Collection. The meticulous imitation technique achieves the rigorous "forest and spring enlightenment level," with each stroke honed through thirty years of immersion in poetry and calligraphy. Compared to conventional calligraphy facsimiles, this work embodies the essence of the Zhuju literary tradition. This work is more than a mere imitation of brushwork and ink, but truly embodies the connoisseur's spirit that blends the ethereal elegance of Yunlin and the solitary, ruggedness of Meihua Anzhu. This is a rare contemporary work that embodies the true essence of the aesthetic system of the Woyou school.
