[Dongxin Lacquer Calligraphy Center|Ink Rhythm Blends with Ancient Charm of Gold and Stone]
This scroll inherits the Shoumen technique of "cut-hair blunt brushes." Its ancient and unadorned style resembles the frosted, shimmering xuan paper of the Inkstone Inscriptions. Its unique and striking character formations evoke the "Tianfa Shenchen Stele," creating a new realm of lacquer calligraphy. The jade plate, crafted with the secret process of seven pebbles and eight dips during the Xuanli period, incorporates pine soot and lacquer, evoking the principle of "gold and stone share the same longevity" as in the "Dongxin Inscription." The meticulous craftsmanship of this imitation, crafted to the exacting standards of "ancient interest study," reflects the refinement of each stroke through twenty years of inscription-based meditation. Compared to more common calligraphy copies, this scroll reveals a distinct connection to Han and Wei dynasty stone carvings. Beyond mere physical resemblance, it represents a connoisseur-grade piece of paper that blends the whims of bronze and stone carving with the sober, detached spirit of the literati. This contemporary glimpse into the true essence of Yangzhou calligraphy, as exemplified by the inscriptions on "Self-Portraits."
